Getting back in rhythm

The other day a friend was sharing how in winter he switches on the engine and lets it run for a few minutes before driving, he mentioned that it is important for the oil to be warmed up so the car  functions optimally. I immediately, I remembered that both my husband and my dad do the same but I never bothered to ask why. My friend mentioned that he uses that time to pray before he goes to work, like a light bulb switching on I saw that as him starting his spiritual engine and warming up for the day to ensure he functions optimally.

Previously on the post ,When do you pray?,  I mentioned that praying in the morning works for me. The same way we can add 10 minutes to run our car engines we can spare a few minutes for prayer. It is only when the car stops on the road that we see importance of letting the engine run for a while. Just because we don’t see the oil infiltrating the cold car parts it doesn’t mean it is not happening. The same way with prayer just because we don’t see the prayer actually building a hedge of protection over our children, leveling the crooked places and  it doesn’t mean it is not happening.

I hope one day  we will get to see what happened every time we prayed. When that day comes, may we not have any regrets for the prayers we never made. When you start with prayer in the morning just like the car it might feel cold and uncomfortable but a few minutes into it, the ride becomes smoother the same with prayer it can only get better keep going.

I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes its hard to get back into rhythm after a prayer/car has been packed for a while, it feels like you are talking to a stranger who doesn’t want to speak to you. But the truth is He is no stranger, and it is us who neglect our relationship with him but he is still there just waiting on you. The same way it is not the car’s fault that its gone cold.

One last example, before and after a work out we stretch and this is what google says about stretching (It improve your performance in physical activities. Decrease your risk of injuries. Help your joints move through their full range of motion. Enable your muscles to work most effectively). In conclusion, it is risky to leave home without a spiritual stretch  😀 you don’t lose weight from the stretching but it is a necessary step to you achieving your physical goals. Let us not neglect prayer, 1Thessalonians 5:17 encourages us to pray without ceasing  pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. There is a direct relationship between prayer and thanks giving. People who pray magnify God  and not their circumstances hence they can give thanks even during the storm. The idea is not not move your gaze from the author and the finisher of your faith, when you do, just like Peter you  drown.

The busy lives we lead has mastered a way of stealing our time with God. We are so preoccupied, prayer is almost impossible or non-existent in our lives. I say, even that silent prayer in your heart, even that pause for a moment to remember your Creator, even the shortest words of saying “Thank you Lord for all you are to me”, and that joyous song in your heart of thanksgiving, it all goes a long way because our God knows what’s in our hearts more than what we say with out mouths. It is also comforting to know that… Read more »
