I recently went to a baby shower for one of the ladies who welcomed me at my husband’s church five years ago and my spiritual home now. She was not a mother nor a wife at the time but she did not see that as a barrier for us 😀 I remember thinking one day when I get an opportunity to shower her, I pray God gives me the strength to do so. And I was not the only one who felt that way, her shower was beautiful and a lot of people came to celebrate her. I was asked to say something about motherhood from a biblical perspective that was the brief. I hope all the new moms will take something from the post. This is what I wrote;

Dear Mandisa

You are one of the most giving people I know, the number of people here can attest to that… (a resounding YES from the guests followed). You have organised so many showers for many of us and we are here to say your seed was not sown in vain.

Giving is a great quality to possess as motherhood is a gift that requires a lot of sacrifice without expecting anything in return. I have been asked to speak but motherhood from a biblical perspective so I’ll quote a verse ” Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is a man who has his quiver full of them Psalm 127 :3-5.

A child brings indescribable joy, reveals a deeper love you never knew existed. But they also test you like no one ever will . The love I’m talking about is unconditional – unadulterated love, the kind that its source never runs dry (it just keeps on giving).

When you see your baby for the first time you will see God’s faithfulness, and fulfillment of a promise because you have seen a seed turn into a human being. You will be reminded without a doubt that the God that can do all that will see to it that this child’s purpose is fulfilled. They make our lives fuller and put smiles on our faces even when we don’t feel like smiling 😃. But you are more than just a mother, you are an individual and you should take care of yourself so you will be able to take care of those he has put in your care.

Some days will be harder than others but you must remember he has given you all that you need to be a great mom, please note I did not say a perfect mom because those don’t exist 😜. You must be quick to forgive yourself when the baby falls for the first time , and she will fall a couple of times.

The verse says like arrows in the hand of a warrior so is the child of your youth, arrows are shot to land at a different destination. My understanding of this verse is that our children will outlive us and they get to represent us in the next generation. Make sure you sow seeds of love and light in their hearts so they shine in the future.

Verse 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. So, don’t let the messy house, sleepless nights, sore nipples and the terrific twos 😊tantrums steal the joy of this wonderful blessings ❤️❤️❤️

P.S Don’t be angry at daddy when she only wants you she has known you the longest 😉
